Information on the State of Your Flowers

Posted on: February 20th, 2015 by Cre8ive Websites

We know that many of you are concerned about the state of your flowers after all of this cold weather (are they healthy, where are my blooms, etc).  We have consulted with the Floriculture Specialists at the University of Georgia for insight and detailed information that we could share with you.  We hope this will give you assurance that your plants are right where they should be at the moment, and let you know what you should be observing in the next few days and weeks as the temperatures moderate.

Cold Weather Reminder for Flower Care from Simply Flowers

Posted on: February 20th, 2015 by Cre8ive Websites

Once again, we have some extremely cold weather this week and your plants will need some special attention.  The weather pattern seems to be somewhat following the weather pattern we had last year with the waves of extremely cold air.  The plants do get bit some with the cold, but the good news is that, like last year,  the pansies and violas will rebound with a little patience and some warmer weather!

Below are the reminders for covering your plants should you choose to do so.  If you can only cover some of your plants, please concentrate on the accent plants as they are the most susceptible.

First and foremost….DO NOT WATER on days that extreme cold is predicted!!!!!  The ice that forms around the roots can severely damage or kill the plants.  You can help protect your plants by covering plants with pine straw, leaves, newspaper, towels, canvas dropcloth, or sheets, but do not use plastic as it can’t breathe and can burn the plants.  Bring small pots inside your garage. Window boxes, hanging baskets, and pots are the most likely to be damaged, as their roots freeze and stay frozen for a longer time than flowers in the beds.

Cold Weather Information from Simply Flowers

As you are probably aware, we are once again in for some frigid weather later this week (currently the forecast is Thursday 43/21, Saturday 49/13, Sunday 35/18). Your plants will need some additional TLC in order to keep them healthy.  Because we have had warmer weather recently, they are in a bit of a growth spurt, so the leaves (especially on the accent plants) are softer and more susceptible to the cold weather.  Please continue to watch the weather forecasts as they are refined during the week and seriously consider covering your plants at night should the weather forecasts indicate that the temperature will drop to the low 20’s or lower.

Because all of the growers are now in the process of growing spring plants, we are severely limited on available winter weather replacements.  Below is some information that will help you take care of your plants during this time.

Upcoming Cold Weather

Happy New Year!  We hope you have had a great holiday season.

As you are probably aware, we are in for some frigid weather later this week.  Although your plants are winter plants and can stand the cold weather, they will need some additional attention when the weather gets as cold as it is predicted later in the week.  Below is some information that will help you take care of your plants during this time.

First and foremost….DO NOT WATER!!!!!

We will not be doing fertilization, leaf removal, or deadheading on Monday or Tuesday of this week. Any materials left on the plant or in the beds will help protect the plants from the upcoming weather.
